‘The Two Nicks’ has a dream of capitalising on the Seltzer phenomena from America with the view to bring the love of this unique, alcoholic drink to the UK. ‘Hard Seltzer’ is a relatively new alcoholic drinks category for the UK and Ireland, and the company’s name, ‘Berczy’ is a nod to the place where the founders first discovered the range.
In 2020, the company, which appeared on Dragon’s Den, approached Nuprint to help create a range of labels for their three-flavour range.
Nuprint needed to produce labels for three flavours, lemon and lime, passionfruit and turmeric and peach and raspberry that would go on their 250mls cans for the UK market. We are well-versed in working with a shrink sleeve format. Sustainability was also a priority as the company is 100% carbon neutral. We worked directly with the team and the in-house artwork team to create the shrink sleeves that would be fit for purpose.
As the labels were for a can, there were a number of unique problems bespoke to Berczy. We had to ensure that the artwork would ‘work’ on the cans, essentially making sure that it was readable, the correct size and was sustainable.
We have years of experience in this category and working with the type of product so we were best-placed to advise on readability in the first instance, making suggestions to help improve this aspect.
We also advised and managed several application trials to ensure everything fitted and would work in the best way for the end consumer. This allowed all parties to see the text, fit and colour use and application finish – this is a complicated process and must be done in stages. This process, however, did provide confidence in securing the sleeve applications. We also went with a PETG option for the shrink sleeve, given its environmental attributes. In addition, we had a very tight deadline to work around both in terms of the filling and launch date with only four to five weeks to create*, produce and deliver.
The outcome was a shrink sleeve that was ready for the market launch within the given time-line, and a key support to the then start-up. The company has since gone on to stock a number of UK-wide retailers and continues to go from strength to strength.
